From what I've read on AVF about this TV and the X10, last year's model you can play games from the start but best to have a break every hour or two so you don't risk image burn in the early stages. I don't think that a p resolution will give you the "pin-sharp" image you see on an LCD screen.
LCD screens are only fit for games, in my experience - they're too artificial for anything else. Is price what is stopping you going for ?
I certainly don't see blocking at 5ft but I can see the "stretched nylon stocking" effect if I try. I have never seen a phosphor trail on my 37" X All that is just to tide you over until a gamer turns up to advise you clemenzina. I don't think you need to turn the TV off every couple of hours, just not keep the image on the screen - so maybe changing games might do the trick too.
But perhaps we'd better wait for an expert. This is a good TV for displaying SD TV programmes, especially if they're from good original material like movies and high-end drama, nature programmes, etc But I can't see it coming up to your "pin-sharp" standard for games - the picture is more like CRT than LCD which suits me perfectly but I'm not a gamer.
I bought a 32" Sony LCD with High Definition tuner and I was amazed at the clarity of, for example, the crowd watching tennis - but the picture has no depth, which is fine for games but I found it "inhuman" I just can't think how to describe it. A 37" LCD would be much lighter and more easily manoeuvrable, if you can find one recommended for gaming. Amazon is often quite good for checking out models and buyers' reviews. Oops, forgot the heat thing - my TV is quite cold to the touch in the bottom half of the back panel - the upper part is warmer.
Breaking in a plasma isn't really as essential as it used to be. I was breaking my X20 in initially but after a while just decided not to bother. I never had to break my PZ80 in and I've never had any retention problems with it, and so far with my X20 I've seen none either. As long as your contrast levels on the set aren't at high levels you shouldn't have any real problems. I'd take a break from straight gaming on the set every 2 hours though maybe and flick it onto a static analogue channel for say 2 minutes to wash away any potential retention.
You won't get any burn though, that's a thing of the past, and any retention that does occur will eventually go away. The instruction contains sections:. Sleep mode 2. Manual in digital television DTV mode 6. Sleep timer 7.
TV — digital TV mode Increase the sound. Right cursor Temporary mute Turn down the volume To do this, just go to the library and select the item to play it as you normally would. In-progress recordings will always be listed at the very top of list with the record icon next to them.
This feature generally preferable to relying on the the timeshifting feature pausing live tv.
