How to update an old desk

We went with this teal spray paint because it was meant to stick to metals and plastics. We have not had a single scratch on this desk yet. That is pretty impressive seeing that we painted this desk over 8 years ago. Universal Pearl Sea Mist : Easier squeeze handle. Behr Tropics Spray Paint. Protective Enamel Gloss Light Turquoise. I love using different spray paints to transform old pieces of furniture or household items like I did in these terra-cotta pots and a FREE playhouse for my little kids!

A lot of my DIY projects just use materials and paints I have bought for other projects. I was able to score some amazing desk accessories from my local Homegoods Store. However, here is a similar caddy if you are an avid online shopper and just need to get your DIY teal desk organized. I also used ceramic pots I had made in college for pen storage.

Any ceramic container would work! You could even marble your own ceramic mug or containers for storage using your leftover spray paint! Also, adding a fun rug under your colorful tanker desk is sure to make your room stand out and be unique! I just love it when I am able to create a very unique space for my home while staying within a budget! We recently also just redid a cheap compressed wood file cabinet that was behind this desk. I just love that we could add to our home office so cheaply!

You have to check it out. It was really fun to turn an old dining room into a fun home office space. Erin, thank you, but I live in deep East Texas. We are always humid. Hubby primed it for me and also primed the handles. Is it possible to get the primer off or should I paint the handles? Thank you!!! Hi Dee. Light multiple coats of spray paint will be your friend. You just have to be careful to not overspray in one area as that is when you get drips. Also, if you are spray painting outside make sure that it is not too humid out.

I feel that we run into problems with drips on projects when the weather is not ideal too hot and humid. Good luck with your desk makeover! Wondering if you painted the insides of the drawers or just the faces. We will hopefully be redoing a tanker desk soon! We did spray the inside of the metal desk drawers. It always amazes me to see how you creatively turn old dated furniture into beautiful showstopper pieces!!!

Big hugs to you Monique, thank YOU! This encourages me to try another one in the near future so thanks. Your email address will not be published. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed. Hello again I'm so happy you dropped by! Let's keep in touch!

Footer Hello again Enter your e-mail so you don't miss a thing! It really is amazing what paint and fabric can do! I love this look, I have gotten many great ideas from you, but this one could use a pop of color to warm it up a little bit, there is too much white. Thanks, Sonya…it is a bit washed out in front of the window…so much so that the images almost look black and white.

It will make more sense though when you see the feature wall it will be sitting against. I love every single thing. And what a brilliant idea to cover the back area in fabric. But tell us about the indirect lighting you used.

Thank you, Diane! I wish I knew how to add lighting, but it is simply where the light is shining through from a small opening at the bottom of the corkboard. Oh yes! Much better. I love the fabric that covers the bulletinboard — really transforms the back! The chair is pretty too.

Thank you so much, Cecilia! Love the desk and the beadboard you added is just a gorgeous bonus. Your home is coming along beautifully! Thanks for sharing and for your inspiration! Thank you, Debra! I sure am glad for that extra hidden storage I got by adding the beadboard.

The new house is humming right along, and you know it is always my pleasure to share!! The desk looks wonderful in her new coat of paint. The other changes, the fabric on the bulletin board and the beadboard to replace the glass make the piece just perfect.

Changing the subject, I saw on another blog that the homeowners used cove molding instead of shoe molding to finish off the trim. It looked very nice. Enjoy your day. Thank you, Donna! I am SO happy I decided to give this desk another chance. I know there was nothing really wrong with it, just tired of looking at it I suppose, but not anymore!

Maybe your desk could use a little paint love too?? As for the molding, I kept all of the original quarter round that was in the dining room in hopes of staining it darker to match the new floors and reusing it, so I will probably need to keep it consistent in the office too, but I do like the look of the cove molding…thank you for the suggestion!

Love the new fabric over the bulletin board areas. Christy, once again you hit it out of the park. I have been getting traction on several projects lately and was feeling pretty smug…until I saw how much you guys have gotten done! Thanks for the challenge! Aww thank you, Kimberly!! Girl, any progress un the right direction is good, be it big or small!

The first thing I noticed was that fabric on the cork board. Fabulous choice! Love the mirror knobs and the new doors and the socks and the sawhorse???? Thank you, Karen! I really love all the work you put into this, and the details make it special. The bulletin board cover and beadboard doors are perfect. The chair and the new hardware really dress it up. My favorite picture is the one of you in your socks!

You rock, Christy! Thank you so much, sweet Debbie! I just discovered those were two odd socks this morning when I pulled out the matches lol. One is a small argyle and the other is larger print ha ha! You are so talented and so willing to share, right down to the last detail. But I wanna be like you. This is beautiful. Would love to find a piece just like it for my computer work. Thank you. Aww thank you for such a sweet comment, Nancy!

It is such a pleasure to be able to share…hoping it encourages others to tackle things they never thought they could! I love the desk! You did such a great job, as usual! My final day of work is Dec. Can I ask you how many times a week do you post?

You can get back to me personally if you like. Thank you, MaryJean! I know you are counting the days!! I post every Tuesday and Thursday! Christy I love, love, love this! I wish I could find a piece like this for my studio: I love how you distressed it and those knobs!!!

So jealous!! Thank you, Beth! Covering up the cork board made a great whopper of a difference, I was really amazed at the change. I miss the glass in the doors though, made it look more like a womans space. Could you skirt it? A good office chair is worth its weight in gold and if you could come up with a beauty solution it would be worth a million!

Thanks, Mary! I loved the simple glass doors, but I do love the much needed closed storage I gained…all kinds of junk fills those cubbies now lol! As for the chair, this is just one of my dining room chairs I put with the desk for photos. It needs to be recovered. I linked to it in the post which you may have missed. Christy, I love the new look!!

I thought it was good before but the fabric and the beadboard really make it extra special now. Thanks, girl!
